In brief

  • Understanding the difference between hazards and risks
  • Understanding different types of hazards and the basics of risk assessment
  • Being mindful of your own risk assessments
  • Moving from systems thinking to practical thinking in the workplace

What?

In this interactive training, participants are challenged to actively consider the risks in their own working environment.

We start with the basics: what is the difference between a hazard and a risk, and how do you assess risks correctly in practice?

Using real-life scenarios, participants learn not only to recognise hazards but also to reflect on existing measures and residual risks.

We also highlight that risk assessment is not entirely objective: differences in perception play a major role in how safety is assessed and addressed.

In addition, we address the tension between systems (checklists, apps, and procedures) and the reality in the workplace. How can you ensure that systems provide support without leading to routine behaviour or “blind completion”?

Contents:

  • Understanding the difference between hazards and risks
  • Identifying different types of hazards
  • Understanding the basic principles of risk assessment
  • Applying the hierarchy of prevention
  • Being aware of differences in perception when assessing risk
  • Taking a critical approach to systems and procedures

Why?

Working safely starts with awareness.
In practice, however, risk assessments are often carried out on autopilot or based purely on experience. Systems can help, but they may also lead to superficial thinking when used without reflection.

By encouraging people to observe, think, and assess with renewed awareness, we not only increase risk awareness but also strengthen their sense of ownership of safety.

Banzai!

  • You will understand the difference between hazards and risks and be able to apply this knowledge
  • You will be better able to assess risks, including residual risks
  • You will be aware of your own perceptions and those of others
  • You will take a more critical approach to safety, including within existing systems
  • You will know how to actively contribute to shaping safety in the workplace
